We do not require account registration to use wāhiku. When you use the site we may collect:
Location data — only when you grant browser permission or type an address. Used solely to run your search query and never stored on our servers.
Usage logs — standard server logs including IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. Retained for up to 90 days for security and debugging.
Account data — if you create an optional account, we store your name, email address, and a hashed password.
Third-Party Services
wāhiku integrates with the following third-party services which have their own privacy policies:
TripAdvisor — place data (names, categories, ratings, and review counts) is sourced from TripAdvisor. Place photographs are loaded directly from TripAdvisor's content delivery network; wāhiku does not host, cache, or store any TripAdvisor images on its servers.
Mapbox — map tiles and geocoding. Your search location is sent to Mapbox to display the map and resolve addresses.
OSRM — open-source routing engine used for driving time estimates.
Cookies
We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in if you create an account. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.
Data Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect your data. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of wāhiku after changes constitutes acceptance.
