The name
A blend of Māori wāhi (place) and Japanese ku (area/district) — two words for place, from opposite sides of the world.

Data & sources
Place photography is loaded directly from TripAdvisor's content delivery network; wāhiku does not host, cache, or store any images.
Maps are rendered by Mapbox. Driving time estimates are computed by OSRM, an open-source routing engine built on OpenStreetMap road data.
Coverage
Currently covers the contiguous United States. Search radius is capped at 250 miles. Travel time estimates are approximate, based on driving routes under typical road conditions, and do not account for traffic, road closures, or seasonal variations.
